Day of the Dead in Oaxaca

For centuries, Mexicans have embraced death with the same fervour they do life. This vibrant annual festival pays homage to the deceased with three days of street parties, “muerteada” parades and cemetery vigils.

Dressed in elaborate costumes and with their faces painted into skulls or “calaveras”, families gather across the central and southern parts of Mexico to decorate altars and party with the spirits of the deceased.
